Soundscape Magazine's First Issue. A CD offset from the background of a hilly landscape and a blue sky with wispy clouds.

Music taste — it's all very personal to each of us. Some prefer to be carried away on some classical instrumentals and others enjoy the peaceful sound of a guy absolutely screaming into a microphone. It's subjective, we get it.

But it's also fun to recognise different kinds of music and observe their aesthetics. This is our goal with our first issue of Soundscape, a music magazine that focuses on comparing and contrasting the various aesthetics of genres.

During this project, we followed the 7 stage design process. We also did not limit ourselves creatively because we thought it would not be as authentic to adhere to the same styles. We did make sure to tie a thread throughout the magazine by keeping the same running text and hierarchies, as well as having “common pages” with the same layout while showcasing a preview of each section. We relied on color theory to convey different moods. We also aimed to create interesting visual contrast through the use of varying sizes, textures, colors, and white space.

This project was completed together with Bianca Andreea-Enache, Jie Chen, and Liam Melkersson at Jönköping University.

A Genre Full of Feeling

With "a landscape of sound" in mind, my goal was to immerse the reader in the feeling of warmth and freedom - something the genre often represents.
